KUMANANA! pays tribute to Victoria and Nicomedes Santa Cruz, who played a pivotal role in the resurgence of Afro-Peruvian arts during the 1960s and 1970s. Through their poetry, music, dance, and choreography, they focused attention on neglected cultural genres of Afro-Peruvian heritage and rekindled interest and appreciation for the music, dance, and poetry that had been long forgotten. Showcasing the original music and writings of the Santa Cruz siblings, KUMANANA! celebrates the resilience and creativity of a people who refused to be silenced or marginalized.
